Hand Wash

Global Hand Hygiene Day in May

Australia, we’ve done well. As restrictions look to ease,  let’s not become complacent with our hygiene habits or adhering to social distancing guidelines. Clean hands saves lives.

On May 5, World Hand Hygiene Day, we were reminded of the importance of hand hygiene in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.

The 2020 World Hand Hygiene campaign theme “SAVE LIVES: Clean your hands”, was aligned with the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.

Nurses and midwives are front-line heroes deserving acknowledgement and appreciation for the critical roles they play in infection prevention. They are trained to wash their hands for 20 seconds.

We are all fortunate to have been given a public crash course during this pandemic on how to properly wash our hands. On May 5 we celebrated this and gave credit to our healthcare workers.

If you’re looking for an alternative to sing other than ‘Happy Birthday’ over and over, here’s a list of songs for you to sing whilst cleaning your hands.

And remember, singing out loud is great for your mental well-being. Sing like no one’s listening.
